How to be deeply good to yourself



What does being good to yourself look like right now?


This is a question I’ve been exploring a lot recently.


I’ve found it to be a potent way to check in and see what I truly need…


….what would be a gentle reset…

…what is aligned with my highest good in this moment…


The answer isn’t always what I think it might be.

good to yourself

In fact, it often isn’t.


And it changes moment to moment.


When I check in, it might be something like…

…exercising

….sitting in the sun

…taking a bath

…pausing to take deeper breaths

…taking a moment to consciously release some tension


good to yourself


Or, it also might be…

…doing a few things on my to-do list

…tidying my office

…having a challenging conversation

…reaching out to a friend


What it looked like at this point yesterday, might be totally different from the same part of the day today…


What I thought it would be for this afternoon may change by the time the afternoon arrives…


I invite you to play with this lens, and see what comes up for you…


…and to trust whatever you hear.


Self-care isn’t always what we think it might be.


It’s not always just self-pampering (although sometimes it is), but if we pay attention…we can discover deeper and deeper levels to what true self-care is.


When you make a habit of checking in this way, the cumulative effect is a deep softening.



This practice…


…gives the parts of you that have been yearning for your attention the space to speak…

… gives your system a process for making suggestions that would be nourishing for your inner child…

…builds trust in your knowing of what’s in your highest good


Your own inner wisdom is the best judge of whatever you deeply need in the moment, even if what you need is support.


And building this trust, and knowing that you’re listening to yourself, creates such a tremendous sense of relief.


So I invite you to take a few deep breaths…


Place your hands over your heart…


and ask yourself…


What does being good to myself look like right now?

good to yourself


See what you discover…


…and keep checking in, moment to moment…


…Remembering that when you choose what’s best for you, what’s aligned with your highest good…


… it is also in service of the highest good for all of us.
