4 Steps to Set Powerful Intentions

What you focus on matters.

Your intentions matter.

When you stay clear on what’s important to you, things start to shift within and around you.

I invite you to take some time this month to really pay attention to this.

When you start to notice how dramatically true this is, it’s easier to be mindful about what you create in your life.

So, today’s post is an invitation root deeply back into what’s important to you.

Below is a 4-step process to help you choose the most important thing to focus on at the moment, so you make sure to move through life in a way that aligns with your needs, values and goals.

This process will help you…

…get clear on how you want to feel in your daily life

…call in the shifts and changes you’ve been waiting for

…reclaim your power to shape your circumstances

…refocus on what truly matters to you

Next week, I’ll send you a guided meditation to help you deepen and accelerate this process.

For now…

4-steps to set a clear and powerful intention for yourself.

Step 1. Get clear on how you want to feel. Free-writing exercise:

Grab a pencil and some paper. (I recommend actually writing this out as opposed to typing. There’s a different kinesthetic connection with your brain. But, typing works too, if that’s easier.).

Before starting, you can balance your brain to settle into a more meditative mood.

Take a moment to write out how you want to feel in your life. Imagine your ideal day. What does it look like? How do you feel in your body? What’s happening around you? What sights, smells, sounds are you surrounded by?

Let yourself just free-write without self-censorship and see what comes through.

Example: I wake up feeling rested and happy. I go for a walk by the ocean, warming up my muscles, breathing in the sea air. I feel soft, flexible, at ease. I feel supported by the universe. I know that whatever I choose to do will be in alignment with what’s best for me and those around me. I’m inspired and I don’t fall into patterns of overthinking or self-doubt. I uplift others just by being me. I know I do not need to struggle to have what I need. I speak up for myself with grace. I am at ease….

Ready? Go for it! See what comes through.

Step 2. Create an affirmation that helps you feel this way.

Start by writing a few, and then pick the one that best helps you embody this feeling.

Again, just write what comes out naturally; don’t worry if it’s “right” or a “real affirmation” or what anyone else would think.

Example:

  • I am safe.
  • My work brings me joy.
  • I am soft in my body.
  • It is safe to experience joy.
  • I trust my path.
  • Life loves and supports me.
  • I trust the universe.
  • I love and trust myself.

Use your intuition to pick which one is the most important focus for right now. Which is calling you? Which both challenges and supports you most deeply? Don’t second-guess yourself. Whatever popped up is exactly right.

Step 3. Write this affirmation somewhere you’ll see it often.

Put this affirmation in your space. Put it on post-it notes and put it on the mirror in your bathroom, on your desk at work, in your car. Make it an alert on your phone. Wherever you’ll see it, so you can be reminded to return to this focus many times throughout the day.

Repeat it to yourself throughout the day. Feel into it.

Continue with this single affirmation for at least a week. As I mentioned, next week I’ll send you a guided meditation to help you take this focus to the next level.

Step 4. Important! Pay attention to how this shows up in your life.

Be available for the shifts this will create for you. See what you notice changing in how you feel. In your circumstances. In how you react to things.

This could look different than you imagine, so just open to curiosity. What is shifting? What do I see?

You might be surprised at how potent this can be.

Bonus step: Share your affirmation in the comments!

This will already start to strengthen your intention by sharing it “out loud.” I look forward to reading it!

Next week I’ll send you a guided meditation to help you amplify and focus your intentions even more. The more you can work with your affirmation in the meantime, the better!

Share your affirmation below.

And, if you want to get a head start on deeply supporting your intention, here’s a guided meditation to balance your solar plexus chakra and root you into your willpower.

Hope you enjoy the process!

Extra bonus step: come back to this post after working with your affirmation, and share what’s shifted for you!
