How to have clear boundaries (and an open heart)

Spring is around the corner! Can you feel it? A new quality to the light…a little more warmth to the sun…

As the season changes, some new themes start to shift into focus. In Chinese medicine terms, we’re leaving the depths of the Water season, and entering the season of Wood…

This is a time of renewal, when the energy of new growth emerges, just like a seed that begins to sprout.

Along with this new feeling of growth and expansion, as we emerge from the more inward focus of winter and start to look outward, some new themes arise…

… And one of these new Spring themes is: Healthy Boundaries!

Having clear and compassionate boundaries is vital for your health and your relationships.


Maybe you’ve noticed some experiences recently in your life that are bumping you up against this concept…

…maybe you’re having to decide what to say yes to and what to let go of…

…maybe it’s felt like you’ve had to really claim your space or alone time…

…maybe you’ve had to let go of some things or situations that no longer serve you…

So, as this theme bubbles up into our awareness, the question becomes: what are healthy boundaries?

Far from isolating us from others, healthy boundaries are what allow us to compassionately hold space for others without becoming lost or overwhelmed in their experience.

Balanced, Clear Boundaries make room for…

… personal integrity: knowing yourself and acting in alignment with this knowledge

…rooted compassion: holding space for others while knowing what’s your experience and what isn’t

…kindness: giving from a place of genuine generosity instead of obligation or guilt

…self-love: being able to hear your own body, and take space to give yourself what you need

…Agency:  being in your power and acting from a place of clarity

And all of this leaves more space for living from a place of being open-hearted.

When you know you’re taken care of, and clear on what’s yours to take on and what isn’t, it feels safe to live openly from your heart.
