How (and why) to give your mind a new job.

How often to do you think you’re fully present?

Awhile back, I decided to be aware of how often I was worrying about something…

…versus just being present.

And I was somewhat shocked to discover that once I decided to be more aware of when I was present or not, I found I needed to pull myself back to the present almost constantly (or at least quite frequently).

You have a powerful brain. You have a powerful mind. You can focus on so many things, and you have the capacity to be infinitely creative. ✨🪄

And unfortunately, especially if you (like me) have experienced stress, trauma, or difficult periods in your life, you might be using a lot of these vast powers to focus on worries and concerns…rather than on being present and at ease.

In general, your mind may be more used to…

…imagining difficult scenarios in the future to try to protect yourself from them or prepare for them…

…projecting past difficulty into the future in order to try to be safe…

…running through all the possible problems that may happen or how you could be doing things better…

…rather than focusing on being present and enjoying your life.

But thankfully, you can choose to shift focus at any time.

So, if any of that sounds at all familiar to you, I invite you to take a moment now to decide to redirect the powers of your beautiful brain and mind. 🧠🪄💫

In its pure form, mind is simply presence.

It is awareness. It helps you take in what is here and now.

So, I invite you to try this: Whenever you notice your thoughts wandering in a direction that doesn’t feel good…invite your mind to be in service to presence instead.

Let your brain and mind help you notice that you’re pre-suffering or re-creating past suffering by worrying… and then let it help draw you back to the present.

Suggested steps to help you use the powers of your mind for good:

  1. Decide to let your mind be in service of you being more present
  2. Let your mind help you notice when you’re not present
  3. Let your mind help you draw all of your awareness into the present moment whenever you are not present (How? Suggestion= the practice below) ⤵

Once I notice I’m worrying or spreading myself out into the future or the past, what helps me come back to the present is…

…noticing what’s directly around me….

…taking in the sound of the essential oil diffuser…

… feeling into the cadence of the breezes out the window…

…. taking in the quality of the light…

presence

…And letting that help me soften into just being here…

…And noticing how much more easeful that is for my whole system.

If you give this practice a try, let me know how it goes for you! Replying to any email from me reaches me directly or you can contact me here. ❤️

Your mind is on your side. It may just need some re-direction about how to best help you.

And, if you want deeper support to unravel the impact of difficult time periods or experiences, to release mental and nervous system patterns that no longer serve you, and to anchor more peace, harmony and presence into your body and mind, I’d love to work with you one-on-one.

You can learn about what I offer and options for working together here.

At the moment, we can work together either for a single session, or in a longer container to help you create more physical, mental and emotional balance by addressing the roots of whatever’s leading to the symptoms you experience.

Working with me would be a good match for you if:

  • You’re interested in the way that your body processes experiences and the mind-body connection
  • You’re curious about gently and self-lovingly exploring and releasing the root causes and imbalances that are keeping you stuck in patterns that don’t serve you anymore
  • You have physical, mental and/or emotional symptoms or concerns that you’d like to deeply address.

In our work together, we can go right to the root and gently make updates to your system, addressing all layers of your being to create more comfort in your body and ease in your experience.

If you’ve been calling in deeper support, I’d love to work with you.

You can learn more here.

Let me know if you have any questions. ❤️

P.S. It’s been a nice rainy stint here in Santa Cruz. I find that the sound of rain is another thing that helps me feel pleasantly present. 💧❤️💧 What helps you?
