Take a break from the shoulds…

When was the last time you had a chance to focus on something that really fed you; something that helped you remember who you are, and what life is all about?

It’s easy to get so caught up in everything we should do-for work, for our health, for our families-that we forget why we do these things in the first place.

I know, since you’re reading this blog, that you spend time trying to be the best version of yourself you can be. I know you strive to take care of your body, mind and soul, because you know that’s whats best for you and those around you.

This weekend, though, I invite you to acknowledge all the hard work you’ve done, and just relax into it for a while. Pause, let go of trying, and get deeply in touch with yourself.

Let’s take a break from all the rule-following and focus purely on what we love; not on what’s good for you (although it could be the same thing), or what you think you should like, but on what you truly enjoy.

Following your heart this way will help you reconnect with your deepest self, the self that delights in the world, the self your healing efforts are working to uncover and nurture.

To get in touch with this part of yourself, try answering these questions…

bee-in-the-approach-209145_640…What attracts you?

…What makes you feel content?

…Where do you find beauty?

…What brings you peace?

…What inspires you and makes you feel alive?

I invite you to take a moment to share some of your answers in the comments below. This will get your creative wheels turning, and give you a list to go back to if you find yourself at a loss for what to do in any downtime you find this weekend.

Hopefully your list will look something like this : )

eat ice pops

Whatever you end up doing, practice noticing what you find beautiful, and spend time with it. Pick up all the prettiest rocks and shells on the beach. Mix paint colors to see what you can come up with. Admire the moon.

Even if you only have a few spare moments this weekend, spending just a small amount of time this way will still be worth it.

I look forward to reading some of your thoughts in the comments below.

Enjoy!

  1. Loved your newsletter! What attracts me? Love, nature, music, expressions of art and creativity. I find beauty in all these things, and in my breath, in my heart. Appreciation, fulfillment and peace is what I’m here for – thanks for the beautiful and fun reminder! I am the architect of my own peace, and fully embracing life and drinking it in with my whole being is really the only time I feel true peace and contentment.

    • Hi C! I’m so glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

Being in the natural world is on my list too, and walking aimlessly outdoors, noticing the vibrant colors in the world around us, having my feet on warm earth, lying in the sun…

So many good things to get up to : )
