Mindfulness Meditation: what difference can a minute make?

In the northern hemisphere we’re heading into late summer, and the season’s beginning to change…

The quality of this time of year is stillness… the quiet moment before taking the next step, the pause between an inhale and exhale.mindfulness meditation

In honor of this stillness, I made today’s video to invite you to spend a moment in stillness, to commune with it, and see what it has to say.

There’s no right or wrong way to spend this quiet moment, no one lesson to learn. Let’s just take a minute together to breath, be silent, and see what we experience.

First I’ll lead you through the cortices technique to balance your brain. This’ll make it easier to relax and be present for our minute.

Then, we’ll take some deep breaths and see what there is to see…

Hit play, and let your body talk to you in this mindfulness meditation. Then, let me know how it went!

What did you see, feel, hear? Did any parts of your body call your attention? Any emotions rise to the top? I’d love to know. Tell me in the comments below!

  1. Hi Amberlee, I meditate regularly but recently have been going through so much stuff being released and such rapid changes in consciousness taking place that I have found it difficult to meditate. When I saw this e-mail from you about the Minute Mindfulness Meditation, I felt drawn to it and did it. I felt calm, relaxed and very present in my body. Yes, I will go back to it and do it regularly. Thanks so much for sending it to us and reminding us how much we can get out of a minute!!!
    Love and Blessings.

    • I’m so glad you found it helpful that it allowed you to settle into your body and feel calm. That’s wonderful! Thanks for sharing your experience : )

  2. I have a lot of friends who are feeling anxious lately, so I’ve been spending a lot of my meditation time focusing on sending them good energy. I don’t think I realized I was starting to neglect myself though. This brought my attention to some tension in the back of my neck and shoulders and some tightness in my pelvic region. I hadn’t even noticed until now! Thanks!

    • So glad you enjoyed it Courtney : ) Focusing more on others in meditations is something I’ve heard a few friends talking about recently. One way to make sure you include yourself in the good energy of your meditations is to either start by sending yourself love, and then radiate outward to your friends, or to start with your friends, and then reflect it inward to yourself. Whichever feels most natural and easy. Thanks for sharing your reflections!

  3. Thank you, Amberlee! I am new to meditating & sometimes taking even a minute for ourselves is quite a task! This is a great start!

    • Hi Pam!

I’m so glad you found it helpful : ) doing the cortices brain balancing technique before any meditation you try can make it a lot easier to focus. I always do!

  4. Thank you Amberlee! Today is my birthday so I felt the overwhelming sensation of love and gratitude while taking this minute. Unfortunately I also felt some loss. My sister in law committed suicide in March and I’m really struggling with her loss, and with my brothers sense of happiness in his new life. I know I will get thru these feelings and my gratitude for life will, once again, takeover. Thank you for your help!! <3

    • Hi D’ann,

      Happy birthday!

I’m so sorry to hear you’ve gone through this terrible loss. I’m glad you were able to get in touch both with your sense of gratitude and with your grief. Even though grief can be so hard to feel,, its a deep healer and helper in getting us through our losses. I have posts on grief that you might find helpful if you’d like to dive into this area more.
